Exploration 1: Setting the Stage for Technology Integration

Introduction

Teacher notepadAs teachers, you fully understand the importance of assessing prior knowledge before beginning a lesson or unit of study. This Exploration is no different from that. It is important for you to fully understand your own technology strengths and areas for growth.

Teacher Technology Proficiency Survey

You will most likely choose to begin integrating the type of technology where your comfort level is the highest. For example, if you feel very comfortable using a word processing program but less comfortable using multimedia software or the Internet, you might focus your early technology integration efforts on having your students use word processing software to publish their work. Once you feel more comfortable using multimedia software or the Internet yourself, you will then be more likely to bring PowerPoint, iPhoto, Internet and Web 2.0 resources into your classroom.
