Professional Development Options

Flexible Professional Development Programs

Curriculum Companion professional development is a face-to-face program that is supported by the online resources at this site. It is NOT an online staff development program, but portions of the web site may be used that way. It is a flexible program that will meet the needs of any district. The workshops and supporting materials include everything from three-hour workshops to four-day summer institutes. There are also hundreds of multimedia technology tutorials for teachers and a growing library of recorded professional development workshops and presentations. Districts can choose from many options depending on their budget or the time that is available for professional development. Curriculum Companion will also provide training, and coaching, and support for your lead teachers or trainers to implement a Curriculum Companion program at your district.

Face-to-Face Professional Development Options - Including all materials and resources for trainers

The professional development materials and trainer resources are all provided by Curriculum Companion. Your trainers will have access to the binder materials, print masters, agendas, and everything they will need to conduct Curriculum Companion professional development at your site.

  • Three-hour half day or after school workshops

Recorded Online Workshops

Curriculum Companion includes a growing library of recorded online professional development workshops like the ones below. Currently their are over 20 hours of professional development workshops available and this library grows weekly as more and more workshops are conducted and recorded. For an additional fee, Curriculum Companion subscribers may participate in live online professional development workshops similar to the ones below.



Using MS Word to Teach Cause and Effect
Part 1 (26 minutes)

In this workshop, participants will review the basics of using Microsoft Word while creating a cause and effect chart to use as a template for students. This workshop will cover an overview of Microsoft Word tables, navigating the workspace, entering and formatting text, formatting borders and merging and splitting cells. In addition, we will discuss ways to incorporate Microsoft Word tables into the teaching of other reading skills.

Using Inspiration to Create a Brainstorming Web
Part 2 (1hr 13 min.)

In this workshop, participants will review the basics of using Inspiration while creating a basic web to use as a template for students or as a lesson aid during instruction. This workshop will cover an overview of Inspiration, navigating the workspace, using the Symbol palette, linking ideas, and the use of the “rapid fire” feature. In addition, we will discuss ways to incorporate Inspiration Webs into other reading applications.

Train-the-Trainer Institutes

Curriculum Companion conducts four-day Train-the-Trainer institutes where lead teachers, reading and literacy coaches, or staff development providers are trained how to use the web resource and conduct Curriculum Companion professional development at your site, All Curriculum Companion trainers are provided all of the professional development materials, and they are supported with ongoing coaching from Curriculum Companion staff. Trainers receive everything they need to be successful with Curriculum Companion professional development at their site.
